“Why in the world would you do that?”
It’s the response that I get most often when I tell people I drink (imbibe, consume, etc.) apple cider vinegar everyday. Admittedly, apple cider vinegar (ACV) is sour, acidic, and downright acrid.
Last summer, my chiropractor here in Des Moines first suggested that I use ACV in a “homemade Gatorade” before runs. Regular sports drinks are chock-full of sugar and the electrolytes they promise are “dead” by the time they get to you anyway. I was getting dehydrated after long runs so I thought, “Why not?”

Not to be trifled with.
I tried it (ACV, water, and honey) and loved it. I became more of a purist as the summer went on. Which finally led to the ritual you’ll see below. This is the routine I follow nearly everyday.
Apple Cider Vinegar Info
- Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar – Don’t go anywhere else. These guys are the creme de la creme of ACV.
- Homemade Gatorade – 2Tbsp ACV, 8 oz. water, honey to taste.
- ACV Power Shot – 2 Tbsp ACV, 3-5 drops liquid stevia, 1 oz. water.
