In 2009 my first business coach told me I was in the wrong industry.
I was working for a nonprofit at the time.
I wasn’t happy.
And he knew it.
So did everyone else in our mastermind group.
Everyone saw it but me.
So one day he just said, “Justin, you will never be happy until you work for yourself.”
He was right.
The group then gave me the confidence and connections I needed to start making the switch.
I don’t know what I would have done without Ben and my mastermind crew.
A few years later I was running my own business.
And that’s when I got hooked on masterminding.
If you’re not familiar with the concept–lemme break it down for you…
It’s a small group of go-getters all headed in the same direction. Usually with a mentor or leader.
Each member gets personalized feedback on their business (pure gold). Marketing, product, finances, getting started–whatever.
They meet on a regular schedule (e.g. weekly, monthly, quarterly).
They can happen online or in-person.
I’ve done both and they both work.
Mastermind groups are like a good addiction.
You get hooked. It’s the WINNING that pulls you in. I like winning… =)
After being in masterminds for the past 3 years, I’ve learned one thing:
If you want to fast-forward your progress, a mastermind is the place to get it done.
The next mastermind group I joined was the one I’m in to this day (gotta practice what I preach!).
We get together a few times a year to talk through our businesses. Get an outside perspective. Connect. Grow.
Our last session was in Vancouver. Absolutely stunning beauty. Great city.
I learned ONE simple strategy from my buddy Brian that will likely net me an additional six figures next year.
It’s super simple. Something I should have seen from a mile away. But I didn’t.
I missed it.
I was KILLING myself trying to build my business. Brian took one look at what I was doing and said, “hey…why don’t you do this instead?”
I went to my hotel room that night and sketched out my plan.
Two days later I was implementing it.
A month later and I’m starting to see the fruit. From one little change. Unreal.
Would I have figured it out on my own? Maybe. But the good news was I didn’t have to. Brian had been there before.
Through our mastermind, I got access to what he knew.
SHORTCUT CITY, BABY!
I want to share what he told me, but it’ll have to wait. We’re already clocking 400+ words.
