I’ve been talking to you all for some time about becoming the Social Czar of Des Moines. (If you have no idea what I’m talking about, you can get up-to-date here and here and here.)

Look at that motley crew.
The competition came to a close on New Year’s Eve. The five finalists, pictured above in all our glory, duked it out for the title of “czar”. There were scandals, flip-flops, campaign posters, and concessions speeches. But who was the victor? Was it me or one of my worthy opponents?
Sadly, I was defeated. Mr. Tony Timm was crowned Social Czar (and a worthy one, at that), but good things happened despite my crushing loss:
- People found out about The Move Project (the charity I was representing).
- New connections were formed with the good folks of The Des Moines Social Club.
- I got a sweet poster of my giant head Obamacized (pic down below).
- I made some new friends.
Here’s a visual recap of the night with some fake captions beneath each photo. Enjoy!

I present to you, your Social Czar!

The group, sans Justin.

Some loyal voters!

Obamacized, yo.
To all the folks who came out to support the Des Moines Social Club and all of us candidates, THANK YOU! What a great way to bring in the new year.
To Tony, Libby, Drew, and Rachel: You guys are amazing.

Thanks for taking part, Justin! It took being brave (and open-minded!) to agree to be a candidate and follow through. I’m definitely going to continue to spread the word about The Move Project.
You rock Justin! It was a pleasure sharing the stage with you!
