Look at this infographic. Just … look:

Online giving's got the boom y'all
If you’re image-challenged, here are the cold, hard facts:
- More people are communicating online. 2010 saw a 13% increase in the amount of emails sent in 2009.
- More people are giving online. 2010 saw a 44% increase over 2009 in total dollars raised online by nonprofits. The average online gift is also increasing.
- More influence is being established online. There were 50% more calls to action online in 2010 than in 2009.
Here’s another little nugget that’ll get your nonprofit minds a-buzzing: The only channel that increased in terms of giving quarter-over-quarter (Q12010 v. Q12011 and excluding disaster relief) was social giving. Yeah. Social. Check this out:

Not too shabby, eh? Some “experts” are touting un-matured research saying that online giving doesn’t work; that it’s a waste of time. What these folks don’t realize is we’re just beginning to see the swells of an online giving tidal wave that will soon be upon us. What are you doing to get your organization ready?
Here are some more fun facts from The Blackbaud Report:
- Nonprofits of all sizes continue to see growth in online giving. Year-over-year online fundraising grew 34.5% in 2010.
- Online giving accounts for 7.6% of all total fundraising. Large organizations went from raising the lowest percentage of total fundraising online at 5.1% in 2009 to the highest percentage at 7.7% in 2010.
- Haiti-related online giving shaped 2010 giving trends. January 2010 had the largest percentage of online giving for the entire year. This change can almost single handedly be attributed to giving to Haiti relief efforts. International Affairs organizations had their online giving grow 130.8% compared to 2009.
- Year-end giving still accounts for the largest percentage of online donations. October, November, and December of 2010 represented 31.3% of total online giving during the year.
- Donors continue to make significant gifts online. In 2010, 88% of organizations had at least one online gift of $1,000 or more.
