Evernote Tips – Let’s Hear ‘Em!

I have Evernote sitting on my desktop. It feels like a slumbering giant, waiting to be awakened into a fit of productive fury. I just don’t know how to rustle it from the deep slumber that my lack of creativity has put it in.

So I turn to you: How do you use Evernote? What’s the best tip you can offer me? How has Evernote bettered your life?

One tip I can offer is the super secret email address. You can use it to have receipts from online purchases sent directly to Evernote. It’s slick.

With that, I beg you … School me!

I use Evernote for a ton of different things, but my top three uses would be the following:

When it comes to “learning” I’m a typer, not a writer. So, I take all my conference notes in Evernote. I also use it to save blog posts or articles online that I want for future reference. I won’t sit down and go through hand written notes, but I’ll glance through typed notes or search for a topic in particular I remember taking notes or reading about somewhere and putting into Evernote.

I snap pictures of business cards and store them so I can toss the cards, but may not want to put that information in my address book.

I also use it to store PDFs of manuals or instructions. Really, the powerful search capabilities make the possibilities endless.

Ooh. Business cards… Now THERE’S an idea… I’m totally stealing that.

I use Evernote primarily as a way to organize my thoughts for the classes that I teach. That’s mostly text work and is pretty basic. The one thing that I do that only Evernote can do really well involves book browsing:

I’m always seeing books at bookstores or the library that I’d like to read. However, most of my reading time during the school year is monopolized by reading for school. So, I have to save these for later. Using Evernote on my phone, I take photos of the covers of books that I want to read when I see them in Barnes & Noble or wherever. I put them into a notebook all their own, and because the text from these images is searchable, I can always search within Evernote to find what I want.

It’s an awesome program similar to Stephen it’s great for compiling websites, blogs, articles etc. that you may not want to save forever and clutter up your bookmarks. It also works great if you need to save a text message on the fly you can send it right to your Evernote.

Hey Justin. Stumbled onto your sight from the Standard Theme forums.

I LOVE Evernote. For me the biggest use is forcing myself to put everything in it. Used to I would have different places to look for articles or something I read (google reader, gmail, instapaper, twitter, facebook, my notebook, file on desk)

Now I just have to search evernote or gmail. (refuse to start backing up my emails into evernote when gmail does such a great job of archiving and retrieving). So now I have everything from receipts for web purchases, scanned receipts, photo’d receipts, business cards, notes from whiteboard, journal entries, twitters from people with links for me to check out later.

Also anytime I run across a photoshop/After Effects tutorial or design I like I use the Safari Evernote web clipper to import that page into evernote. I have a tag called design inspiration. So anytime I want to create a new video/logo etc I can click that tab and instantly be inspired.

    Hope that helps!
