STEP 1: SOCIAL CONTENT
The first step in building your social media system is creating content. Everything hinges on it. As you’ll see in this course, it’s the starting point for a reason.
I’d rather you create bad, consistent content than inconsistent, good content. At least your audience knows what to expect.
It’s like eating in your high school cafeteria. You knew it would barely be edible. You knew it’d be lukewarm. You knew it’d cause mild abdominal discomfort. But at least you knew it would be there.
Your audience expects the same thing. They want consistency. It’s one of the most important factors in any human relationship. Social media relationships with your customers and clients is no different.
Your social media system hinges on your ability to create content. First with consistency. Then with quality.
Think of content as the raw building material for your System.
No content? No System. It’s that simple.
STEP 2: SOCIAL ENGAGEMENT
When you create content, people will respond to it. It might take awhile, but they’ll respond.
When they do, you’ll need to be prepared. Responding to tweets, DMs, Facebook messages, comments, and likes…these all fly under the “engagement” banner. Your System depends on your ability to make sure none of this stuff falls through the cracks.
If content is the first step, engagement is a CLOSE second.
Try not to think of this as a burden. Think of it as a living, breathing connection to your core audience. If you do it right, you have a rock-solid group of allies willing to go to bat for you.
You’ve heard the whole adage, “people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care”? It is 100% factual. Especially when it comes to building a Social Media System.
If you want people to respond to your products and services, you have to show interest in them FIRST.
STEP 3: SOCIAL WEB
If social media are the outposts, then your website is your homebase.
When you create content and engage with all those people online, you need a place to send them. That’s where your website comes in.
But not just any ol’ website. No. Your site needs consistent content flowing through it (sound familiar?). Typically this will come in the form of relevant, well-written blog posts. Content focused on the needs of your audience.
Your “social” website must be optimized for email capture as well. But we’ll get more into that later…
STEP 4: EMAIL
Told you! If you’ve been wondering, “But Justin…where do I actually get to SELL?” This step is for you.
Email is where you sell. Plain and simple. Regardless of industry, it’s THE best place for you to be selling. Email is 1350% more effective at driving traffic than social media.
Yup. You heard me right. 1350%, yo!
