What the Delivery Room Taught Me About Succeeding in Life

Ladies and gentlemen, I’ll cut to the chase. I’d like to introduce you to Evie Grace Wise. My daughter.

She was born in downtown Des Moines on March 28th, 2012. My wife and I hopped in the car just after 6a. As the 20-minute drive progressed, so did Kerry’s contractions. We got the hospital at 6:20, in a room by 6:25, and at 6:44a, little Evie made her entrance into the world.

(For those keeping track, yes, that was 20 minutes of active labor. My wife is freaking Super Woman.)

It’s been just over five days since Evie was born and, as I’m prone to do, I’ve been reflecting on what this experience has meant. Amongst other things, here’s what her birth taught me about accomplishing the things in life you want to.

Top-of-Mind Mondays

  • I unplugged over the weekend. Biggest lesson learned? It’s hard to care about your Klout score when you’re at the park with your son. Not saying Klout isn’t important, just saying that there other things to concern yourself with.
