Top-of-Mind Mondays

  • I wrote a post on church growth and André the Giant. You can read it at Church Marketing Sucks.
  • Here is an online database of social media policies. You’re welcome.
  • We saw “Wicked” for the second time. First time in NYC, second time in DSM. Aside from a noticeable difference in Glenda’s singing abilities, the two productions were virtually the same. What a great show!
  • I captured every single tweet from the Social Media Analytics conference, as well as some video from the event. You can see the list here.
  • The Penn State scandal is the most heartbreaking situation I’ve ever witnessed in college sports. It’s not about money or improper benefits; we’re talking about ruined lives.
  • Did you see the Sandusky interview Bob Costas did last night on NBC? Costas was spot-on, asking the questions that needed to be asked. Sandusky, on the other hand, did little to dispel the allegations that he is, in fact, a complete monster.
  • Joe Paterno deserved to be fired. If it’s true that he knew about this and said nothing, it doesn’t matter what he’s brought to the University. Those accomplishments still stand, but can never makeup for the silence.
  • Last Penn State mention, but this whole situation has showed me something: Injustice can’t hide forever. Somehow, someway, at some point, if you’re trying to cover something up, it will get revealed.
  • We’re cooking up some things at MonkDev that are making my head spin. In a good way. If you’re interested in social media and web strategy, have a desire to travel, and know your stuff, please contact me.
  • Do you eat edamamé, tofu or other soy-based products? You might want to read Unhealthy Truth and reconsider. My wife’s reading it right now and let’s just say it’s changing what goes into our fridge.
  • 92% of Jesus’s time in the Gospels was spent in the martketplace amongst people. Not holed up in a church building. (And yes, I realize churches and synagogues are different. Hopefully you get the point). What do you think that means for the modern church? What are the implications?
