Top-of-Mind Mondays

I hope you had a wonderful holiday, no matter what you were celebrating! Life’s too short to force people to say, “Merry Christmas.” I just hope you were with people you love!

• My best gift was a UNI Panthers cup and a chef’s knife. What was yours?

I get this week off. Going to take the time to dream, think, plan, and ready myself for a rockin’ 2012. This should be a year for the ages, that much is sure! So thankful for leaders like Drew, James, and Etienne at the helm of Monk Development!

My wife and I are starting some of our own family traditions. This year, we made sure Finn woke up in his own bed on Christmas morning. He opened a few presents, we ate some pancakes, and then got to spend the entire day with my family. What were some of your favorite traditions growing up?

Do any of you have a Kindle? I have an iPad, but I’m thinking of grabbing a Kindle for reading-only dreaming sessions. The most affordable option is $79, doable for just about any budget. What do you think?

For those of you in ministry, when do you get to celebrate the holidays with your family? What does that look like? Please share!

Michael Bublé’s Christmas album is dope.

• I said this earlier this week on Facebook, but I’ve been having a few of those, “I can’t believe how different my life was a year ago” moments. Know what I mean?

I went on a bit of an unfollowing spree last week. I may have axed you by accident. It wasn’t intentional, I just couldn’t stand to have my Twitter feed overrun by Russian spammers and social media “ninjas” any longer. If I snipped you by error, let me know.

Speaking of Twitter, I’ve switched up my social media strategy as of late. Keeping a tighter reign on the signal-to-noise ratio, tightening up my circles a bit. It’s fueled by the desire to connect with folks on a real level. I’ve lost about 300+ followers since I parsed my list, but most of those folks were selling SEO strategies or Kirby vacuums. Good riddance, I say.

• Really digging the concept and experience behind Path.

Absolutely love my Kindle, something that came as a shock to me because I'm a major consumer of print books and write them! I find reading easier and faster on a Kindle because I can adjust the font size and line spacing. I think the basic Kindle is just fine for reading only. Last and greatest in my world: marrying The Rev. Canon Dan Webster (@RevWeb) on 11/5, deploying lots of social media in the process, and then writing a little book about it: Getting #Married: Using Social Media to Celebrate the Sacred. Available now via Amazon in print (via CreateSpace, great process and quality product) and on Kindle. Hopes for 2012: Getting more folks actively involved in using social media to supplement other ways of promoting ministries. Writing a book about spiritual practices for the 21st century, and staying healthy!

I'm totally going for it. Heard a lot of people say how much they love the Kindle. I'm on it! CONGRATS on the marriage! How exciting. Happy for you and the Mr. ;) Go get 'em!

LOVE my kindle. For reading only, it's incredible. I was hesitant, but really love it.

Highly recommend grabbing a Kindle. I got my wife one for Christmas and she absolutely loves it. And the $79 price makes it an easy one to buy just to test it out.
