Top-of-Mind Mondays

  • “You are now marketing to an audience with an audience of audiences.” @briansolis

  • This had me laughing for 10 minutes straight. Start with #3. It’s the best one.
  • It’s going to be a great week in Des Moines. First, Ben Arment comes to town for the Creatives Breakfast at the West End Architectural Salvage. Then, MonkDev CEO, Drew Goodmanson, comes to town to scope out office space and breathe in the Des Moines beauty. So much awesomeness. CAN THE CITY CONTAIN IT?
  • There are countless amounts of people trying to white-knuckle the Christian life. Living like Jesus through brute force. It doesn’t work like that. Religion says, “If we worship, god will come down.” Christianity says, “God came down, so we worship.” Viciously eliminate the “musts” from your vocabulary.
  • On a related note, grab Jason Upton’s new album. He’s not for everyone, but he’s one of the only Christian artists I can tolerate. Real, earthy, honest, unpretentious. I actually believe what he’s saying. He’s also responsible for what could be the greatest song ever written.
  • My family was out of town for Father’s Day. We celebrated before they left, but their absence made me realize something: Family is life. Kerry, Finn, and Evie are so unbelievably important to me.
  • Robots are getting closer to the edge of the solar system.
  • Cannot wait for TEDxDesMoines. Organized by the delightful Brianne Sanchez and the accommodating Alexander Grgurich.
  • Downloaded, read, and began applying this short little ebook over the weekend. I love studying work habits. Turns out other people do, too. See when you’re most productive (and what to do if you need to change habits).
  • The Social Media Starters Course will launch this week. Can’t wait for you all to see it.
  • Below: Carly Rae Jepsen, Jimmy Fallon and The Roots sing “Call Me Maybe” with schoolroom instruments. 1

Hi Justin, got to your blog through a link from Michael Hyatt. Really enjoyed reading some of your posts, can see we have a lot of interests in common, Social Media, Faith and running! (But for me it's developing projects in Russian which makes for a fun day!) The floating cup is really funny ... how does he do that? (or dat ... as most say!) I also have read Laura Vanderkam's book - prompted me to start running with my dog mornings and also the process of developing a blog (under construction at peterbillingham.com) I may be crazy but I signed up for the wolf run in September, it's not a half marathon, but still a bit crazy! http://www.thewolfrun.com/ Don't think I will be following the viral craze about "Call Me Maybe" ... but who knows! Have a great weekend! Pete

The magic trick cup at the drive through is genius marketing. It immediately got me to go to their site and want to learn how to do that. Very smart
