“You and I live in a world where it’s very easy to make our own little echo chambers.” – @bigwags
Went to TEDxDesMoines over the weekend. I might sound like a broken record, but I continue to be inspired and delighted by the people in this city. If you want to read my notes, just click here.
Gary Hamel talks a great deal about crowdsourced leadership. It’s this notion that our world is changing so rapidly, and problems are becoming so complex, that no one person (e.g., a CEO, senior pastor, etc.) has the ability to lead efficiently. Leadership, as a responsibility, now rests on us all. Interestingly enough, Mike Wagner talked about the same thing at TEDxDesMoines.
We just passed the 400 subscriber mark for the Social Media Starters Course. Could not be more pleased with the feedback so far.
Muuter.com is one of my favorite Twitter-related sites. Ever in a situation where someone is live-tweeting an event and the info fire hose is too much? Don’t unfollow. Just mute.
Honest question: Why do gift certificates have an expiration date? If I pay $30 for a gift card for someone, shouldn’t they have the right to spend it whenever they’d like? I’m probably unenlightened. Someone, please, enlighten me.
Thoroughly enjoying the new format for Office Hours. Moved entirely to Google+. Great platform for threaded, real-time interactions.
Below: In keeping with the TEDx theme, here’s a video that blew my mind.
Actually gift certificates/cards are a total boon to the companies - many are never used, so it's a pure infusion of cash for them. Otherwise, why would you see a whole mess of them for various companies at grocery stories and drug stores? Add in an expiration date, and that gets even better for them.
Do your friends and family a favor - give cash, not a gift card.
