“People without dreams will often try to kill yours.” – Casey Graham
I spent last week in Dallas for the Echo Conference. What a top-notch event. My favorite part? Davin Bryngrym was back. Good bad video is hard to do. (On a sidenote, if you’re awaiting a reply from me via email, I’ll get to it soon. Promise.)
While at Echo I presented on the hidden power of the church website. Interesting stat from the presentation: In 2009, 16% of people said the church website was the first place they learned about the church. In 2012, that number jumped to 33%. The website is the new front door of your church.
After Echo, the CFCC board had our annual strategic summit. Amongst other things, we welcomed a few new intelligent, sharp individuals to the board. Great group. Great vision. Good things ahead!
Is anyone else’s Olympic experience being hindered by NBC? It’s not the tape-delay. I get that. It’s a necessity. It’s their use of social media. Tweeting out live results on the official Twitter account? Hiring a social media “expert” (Michelle Beadle) who insults athletes and can’t keep her terms straight? NBC’s search to stay relevant during the Olympics is leaving a bad taste in my mouth. Simple fix? Make an official Twitter account for results only. Try not to spoil your own coverage, m’kay?
Speaking of Olympics, I used to have the biggest crush on Olympic gymnast, Dominique Moceanu. The ’96 games were happening just as I was turning 16 and I thought she was the cat’s pajamas. She just released a memoir that basically states the Karolyis (Bela and Marta) are borderline abusive tyrants. You know what? I believe her.
Get this: DSM > ORD is $900. OMA > ORD is $295. I’m a huge fan of “buying local,” even when it comes to airports, but that price difference is redonk. I’ll gladly drive two hours to save $600. (Although, I have a feeling all that will change when Southwest comes to town in October.)
Thanks for the shout-out, Justin! Love this recap--you're funny. :) And I agree about the NBC comments. PS: I also loved the USA Women's Gymnastics teams in my formative years, the 1990s'...
