Top-of-Mind Mondays

  • “Action expresses priorities.” – Mohandas K. Gandhi

  • For those interested in this stuff, we went back to the church I worked at for nearly seven years. No outlying reasons other than a profound sense of call back to the Lutheran Church of Hope faith community. It’s good to be back. We wish nothing but the best for our old, new church, Jordan Creek Family Church. It’s a good day in Des Moines when churches grow!
  • Coming to the end of my busy traveling season. A trip to Chicago, Houston, Denver, and maybe San Diego and I’m done for the year. Does your job have a “busy” season?
  • My teammate and I moved into the MonkDev Des Moines offices last week. We’ve been empowered by the leadership team at HQ to start this office and make it go. What a privilege! If you’re ever in downtown Des Moines, near 700 Locust, stop by and we’ll give youa tour. Better yet, come work alongside us.
  • Anyone going to STORY? I’m a bit biased, but Ben and his team have gone out of their way to make sure I have what I need (I’m live-blogging) while rolling out the red carpet. Ben knows how to stage an experience!
  • Evernote-optimized notebook. (I cannot wait for this!)
  • My wife is such an inspiration. Not only has she single-handedly changed the way that I eat (more veggies and fruits, less fake foods, more organic), she’s thinking of getting a degree in nutrition. Love that she wants to make a change in this world.
  • Bragging about the time you get up every morning is a quick way to get unfollowed on Twitter. Chances are I’ve got you beat, anyway. Having an “early rising” five-month-old ensures I see the time of day that used to make me shudder.
  • I dare you to listen to this song and not get weepy.
  • I’ve talked to a few friends who are on the cusp of seeing their dreams realized. For some, it’s been a long journey. It underscores the importance of starting now to build the life you’ve always wanted. No one’s going to do it for you.
  • An open letter to Lolo Jones.
  • I spent more time editing my article for September’s SundayMag than I should have. Why? I wrote about the Dan Cathy/Chick-fil-A situation. I wanted to make sure I was being as balance as possible. I have leanings just like the next guy. Had to get this one right. Want to be the first to read it? Subscribe to the free online mag here.
  • I’m experimenting with advertisers for a regular social media & digital content tips email I’ll be starting. Still determining price, but it will be under $50 if you get in on the ground floor. You’ll get a graphic ad and 1-2 lines of text to describe your service/product, etc. Interested? Sign up here.

I wish I could make it to Story! I'm really looking forward to R12 though. I've been given a press pass and I couldn't be more excited! I can't wait to read your thoughts on the Chick-fil-A thing... I wrote a blog post about it as well. My key takeaway from the experience-- some people are going to read/hear what they want to read/hear. As unbiased as you try to be, it will always sound bias to someone. Neutrality is just not something some people are able to see-- you're either with them or against them.
