Different Quote

We’re all experiencing a shift in behavior. And once behavior changes, your aspirations change, your goal setting changes, and you have to create a new future. Normally, we can do this over longer periods of time, but right now, 24 hours is probably the best use of your focus. What can you do in the next 24 hours?

How many dreams have died at the altar of overthinking?

I'm examining this in my own life lately. Challenging myself to put aside the constant need to overthink and predict the future before it even happens.

Show up. Do the work. Create. Watch what blooms. Repeat what works. Discard what doesn't.

Simple!

A much easier (and more enjoyable) process to follow than overthinking everything.

Different Thought

Want To Get Paid For What You Know?

I've consulted with 100+ entrepreneurs who want to get paid for what they KNOW, not just what they DO.

The number one fear holding nearly all of them back?

They're afraid they don't know enough to get paid for it.

The crazy part is they’ve all built up a world-class knowledge base in their respective fields:

  • Doctors
  • Consultants
  • Tech executives
  • Authors
  • Butchers, bakers, candlestick makers

…you get it the idea ;)

In some cases we’re talking decades of knowledge acquisition.

The vehicle is usually a digital product of some sort: online courses, coaching program, ebook, etc. But when push comes to shove, they’re nervous about hanging their shingle out in the world and boldly stating: PAY ME FOR WHAT I KNOW.

Like, I one time I was doing a Structure Session (that's what I call my day-long digital product mapping process) with a bestselling author. If I said her name, you would know it. For now, let’s just call her “Jessica”.

Jessica’s probably sold more books than 99% of the world’s population.

She wanted my help because she wanted to create a digital product to help aspiring authors map out and publish their first book.

She’d completed the process herself several times.

Made every mistake in the (ahem)… book.

And “how do I get published?” was the #1 question she got from her audience.

So she wanted to boil down that wisdom into a graciously affordable online course.

Awesome!

Part of the Structure Session includes mapping out your Specific Process—in other words, how you do what you do. She walked me through the nooks and crannies of her publishing process and it was incredible. Truly top notch.

But as the day progressed, I kept catching her say things like:

  • “Oh, this is kind of what so-and-so does so it’s not really all that special…”
  • “Oh, this is a dumb little thing I do when I get writer’s block but I don’t think it’ll help anyone else…”
  • “Oh, this is how I got featured in such-and-such publication, but it was probably just a lucky break…”

It was like she was trying to talk herself out of doing the very thing we set out to do: GET HER PAID FOR WHAT SHE KNOWS (world-class publishing process), not just WHAT SHE DOES (write books).

Excuse after excuse.

So Jessica and I had a little heart-to-heart.

I asked to her:

Do you believe what you do can help someone get published?

“Yes, of course. I wouldn’t have asked you here if I didn’t!”

OK, cool. Then why do you keep comparing your process to others? And why do you keep discounting your experience?

“I guess it feels so obvious and natural to me—so how can I expect other people to pay me for it?”

Ahhhhh… there it was.

I see this all the time ****with entrepreneurs who’ve built up a vast amount of knowledge in their respective fields.

They discount their experience and compare themselves to others, thinking their knowledge is "common".

But what they fail to realize is that their "common" is someone else's "remarkable".

It's important to recognize the value of your knowledge and expertise and not be afraid to boldly state, "Pay me for what I know."

This view no longer exists. It's a photo from our last trip to Maui—a window-side table at Fleetwood's overlooking Front Street and Lahaina Bay.

No doubt you've seen the what's happening. Absolutely dreadful news coming out of the island.

The death toll is expected to rise dramatically in the coming days and, unfortunately, there's a looming humanitarian crisis not far behind.

I've scoured the web for the most reputable source for donations. If you'd like to contribute to help rebuild Maui, go to MauiRapidResponse.org.
